Situated in the heart of the Silgueiros sub-region, in the Demarcated Region of Dão, is Quinta da Penseira, which the owner acquired in 1996 and began restructuring its centenary vineyards, based on current viticultural technologies, but always keeping in mind the traditions of the culture in the region.
Silgueiros dates back to ancient times (4000 years), as demonstrated by the numerous remains left by the Moors and Romans, where the Lagaretas and the Anthropomorphic Tombs (Tombs of the Moors) are still today evident proofs of their passage through the parish, with more than 800 years. The very place of the "penseira", the name by which the site where the Quinta is now located was known, contains one of these Tombs, next to an oak tree that is the ex-libris of the property.
The reason for the name "penseira" does not yet have a convincing explanation, but legend has it that the place, located on a slope overlooking the Dão river and facing south, given its natural beauty and grandeur, was a place much sought after by the inhabitants of the region, to "think" about the hardships of life, in order to obtain in it the peace and tranquility of spirit they often longed for.
Also its current owner, marveled at its landscape, decided to install his natural refuge there, associating with this pleasure, the possibility of contributing to the resurgence of the wines of the old Manor Houses (Quinta Wines), which gave so much fame to Dão. Such an idea was only possible, given the excellent edapho-climatic characteristics of the place and the great oenophile interest that always accompanied him throughout the last years of his life, as a successful businessman in another country.
